Winyah

Bite the bullet put me under the gun / Don’t know where to go but I know I should run  / Time won’t stop to wave goodbye, sings lead vocalist Thomas Rowland on “Spinning,” a standout track on the highly anticipated sophomore album from Winyah. The band around him—bassist Stephen Russell, keyboardist Robert Buffington Jr., guitarist Luke Gordon, and drummer Jake Riley—conjure a summer storm of indie rock bliss, swirling and cathartic and wildly alive, an urgent embrace of the present tense. That now-or-never energy courses through eleven tracks like a frenetic current, the sound of a band claiming momentum.

“Much of this album came from transitory moments between tours,” shares Rowland. “Lying in our backyard, feeling the weight of our goals, where we’re headed, and where we want to be—but also just feeling thankful for the time to sit in it, to recognize what’s happening.” 

Formed in 2023 and named for an historic South Carolina bay where its members grew up, Winyah has made its power rapidly known. What began in the thick haze of campus life—sleeping on couches, nursing hangovers at the Waffle House, planning road trips around class schedules to play shows—came into clarity in a phone call not long after graduation. Bonnaroo had a slot with their name on it, nevermind the fact Winyah had written just three original songs. It wasn’t a simple invitation to accept—Russell abandoned a burgeoning career in finance, Gordon gave up a professional surfing contract—but Winyah had received both a signal and catalyst: make music, and make it now. They locked themselves into a warehouse in Columbia, South Carolina and wrote enough to fill a set, songs that became their riotously successful debut ‘Lot To Learn.’ 

That record introduced a band on the brink, a kinetic blend of unassailable talent and full-throttle passion that propelled countless sold-out headlines, more major festival plays like Lollapalooza, support for artists as esteemed and eclectic as Mt. Joy, Wilderado, flipturn, and Evan Honer among others, and abundant tastemaker attention. As SPIN Magazine put it, “Winyah's rise has been anything but ordinary.” But call it all kindling, those accomplishments of ‘Lot To Learn.’ Because ‘Right Here, Right Now’ is pure combustion. 

Produced by Winyah along with Matt Zutell of Coast Records, the sophomore offering blends the best flavors of rock—the loose swagger of Southern, the tight grit of indie, the off-kilter buzziness of alternative. The band counts acts as varied as The Backseat Lovers, Pinegrove, Tame Impala, Kings Of Leon, and Pink Floyd as formative influences. “A lot of our sound is about tension and release,” shares Rowland, and aptly so. Across ‘RHRN,’ toxic cycles are shattered—be they romantic entanglements on “Lust” and “8 Missed Calls,” the curse of the overthinker on “Spinning,” or the recurring burden of nonsensical small talk, comically skewered on “Drawing A Blank.” I can’t relate to drunken debates / When it’s getting late, the smiles are fake / It’s always about you / Isn’t that cute? In music and in life, Winyah is looking for honesty.

Part of this band’s undeniable appeal is the equivalent, killer skills of each player, and the palpable chemical flair between them. The dynamic is as present onstage —“It’s like seeing The Beatles in 1962,” hails Track Eleven—as it is in recordings. Gordon’s guitar sparkles kaleidoscopic on “Spinning,” an immediately arresting foundation which Buffington Jr. sets alight with otherworldly keys. The artfully tempered grumble of Russell’s bass on “Canopy” emerges like its own living animal. Riley’s drums feel nearly dangerous on “Rat Race,” ripping unabashedly behind Rowland’s growl—that driving rasp reliably detonating any bit of emotional stasis left in a song. “We love a climactic ending,” he says. “Let the floodgates open, let it rip, live it fully.”

It’s an audible ethos on ‘Right Here, Right Now,’ songs that embrace precisely what that title represents—the finite moment in time, the flash of spotlight, the quaking rise—that this rock band calls their own. The fire is officially hot, and Winyah is strikin

Foxtide

Made up by Elijah Gibbins-Croft, Oey James, and Ian Robles, Foxtide is a byproduct of being bred by the beach and raised by a DIY house show scene. The SoCal three-piece was formed around garage jam sessions and earned their cult following through the intense vitality of their live
shows.

First starting to release music in 2019, it was the band’s second EP Visons in 2021 that took them from a hometown secret to a band to watch nationally. Foxtide has previously played alongside The Backseat Lovers, Echo & The Bunnymen, Lime Cordiale, Sarah and the Sundays, Mustard
Service, Beach Goons, and joined the lineup of Shabang, Nothing Fest, and more. 

Moving into the chapter of their next project, Foxtide is abandoning the idea that they need to create “perfect” music, and simply making what they like to listen to. Tinged with the aloofness of early 2000s rock, while experimenting with the formulas of modern pop, all threads are knotted in the authenticity behind Foxtide’s unrelenting love for music. The band's third EP 'Paradise' helped them secure critical looks from Fashionably Early 'Bands that Deserve to be Bigger', Luna Collective Magazine, and the ir debut LA headline show selling out. Their most recent record earned them the cover of Fashionably Early's playlist as well as their first editorial look from Spotify in 'All New Rock,' and Apple's 'New In Rock' and 'New In Alternative.' On the heels of the deluxe version, the band secured support tours with Arcy Drive, Pity Party Girls Club, and more to be announced.

Foxtide has most recently signed a record deal with Position Music, and is gearing up for their second full length LP.
