Lucy Kaplansky is an acclaimed singer-songwriter of rare talent, hailed by The New Yorker as “a truly gifted performer with a bag full of enchanting songs” and by The Boston Globe as “the troubadour laureate of modern city folk.” Over the course of nine critically acclaimed albums—including two named Best Pop Album of the Year by the Association for Independent Music—Kaplansky has built a reputation for combining deeply personal songwriting with universal resonance. NPR praised her 2012 release Reunion as “a master class in making the personal universal,” while Scott Simon called her latest record, Last Days of Summer (2022), “absolutely wonderful... utterly beautiful and affecting.”
In addition to her solo work, Kaplansky is beloved as a member of the folk supergroup Cry Cry Cry, alongside Dar Williams and Richard Shindell. Their album became a surprise sensation, sparking a sold-out national tour and, later, a triumphant reunion run in 2018. Her cover of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” has earned over 12 million streams on Spotify, and she’s been featured on NPR, BBC, and CBS Sunday Morning. She’s also sung harmony for artists like Suzanne Vega, Bryan Ferry, Nanci Griffith, and Shawn Colvin, with her vocals even appearing in the Tom Cruise film The Firm and the NBC series Ed.
Don’t miss Lucy Kaplansky live at The Barn on Saturday, March 28, 2026, where she’ll bring her luminous voice, heartfelt songs, and unmatched storytelling to an intimate night of modern folk at its finest.
