Sileo Quartet
“Across Borders, Across Time”

Join us for a vibrant musical journey across continents and eras with the award-winning Sileo Quartet
(2 violins, viola, cello) at Steve’s Guitars on Friday, April 24th at 8:00PM.

An intimate venue with stunning acoustics, Steve’s is the perfect place to experience the magic of the string quartet: four individual voices creating, conversing, breathing, and dancing as one.

In this show, listeners will travel to Argentina through the tango nuevo music of Piazzolla, to Scandinavia through traditional folk songs arranged by the Danish String Quartet, back to America through music
by Blair Fairchild and living contemporary composer Jessie Montgomery, and more!

The program centers around a never-before-recorded piece, Quartet, published in France by American composer Blair Fairchild in 1911. While Fairchild was deeply embedded in the thriving French art and classical music scene in the early 20th century, his work slowly slipped into obscurity and was lost to history after his death. He was considered one of the best American composers of the time by influential composers and pedagogues like Nadia Boulanger, and despite Quartet’s positive reviews at the premier, its late-romantic, impressionistic musings have never been heard in full by a modern audience. Listeners will have the rare opportunity to be part of rediscovering a lost artistic voice by experiencing this piece live for the first time in over a century.

About Sileo: Winners of the Grand Prix at the 2023 MaƂopolska International Music Competition, the Sileo Quartet studied under the Pacifica Quartet at Indiana University and has performed throughout the United States and abroad, recently touring Poland with a program of 20th Century Polish composers. Sileo Quartet operates as a fluid collective, coming together for projects that spark curiosity and artistic inspiration. They are currently working on recording the Fairchild Quartet on this program.

Quartet members include violinist Dawning Vajdi, violist Mason Spencer, and cellist Adrian Golay.
Carbondale's own- violinist Delaney Meyers is thrilled to join the group
for their Roaring Fork Valley concerts this April.
