The Obsessed were one of the early Black Sabbath-influenced doom metal bands on the American continent. They formed in 1976 under the name Warhorse, but by 1980, they had changed their name to The Obsessed. The band had gone on hiatus before releasing several albums and breaking up in 1995.
Reunited in 2012, initially to play at the Roadburn Festival. The band did another reunion show at Maryland Deathfest XI in May 2013.
In 2016, an update from Scott "Wino" Weinrich was posted on Facebook that stated that the current members of Spirit Caravan would become the new lineup of The Obsessed. The band will still play both Spirit Caravan, and The Obsessed material but will go by The Obsessed.
In the early '80s, during the Reagan years, three young buzzards were hatched in a nest of empty
whiskey bottles inside the hayloft of a rotten decrepit barn. This particular barn was well known as a
rehearsal studio and stash spot for many touring and local musicians. Over the years, a variety of genres
of music were written and performed in this magical farmhouse, including but not limited to; psychedelic
rock, outlaw country, and heavy metal. The adolescent buzzards' young minds absorbed these eccentric
musicians' writing skills and other curricular activities. In the early 2000s, the building was condemned
due to a string of violent murders that were only witnessed by the three scavenger fowls. After feasting
on the decomposed corpses, they started hankering for the sound of live music. The lack of fingers and
opposable thumbs made this nearly impossible. They spent years pecking ideas for songs into the
wooden floorboards of the abandoned barn. Fast forward to the year 2021, three young men were in
search of a practice spot for a new musical endeavor. They stumbled across a building that had been
recently purchased by a long-haul truck driver. When the newly formed band entered the freshly painted
building, the smell of death immediately entered their nostrils. The first thing in their field of vision was
the remains of three strange birds. Although the place was in shambles, the price was right and the boys
agreed to rent the building. While cleaning out the ransacked shed, the bass player stumbled upon a
hundred-dollar bill with the face of Albert Hoffman in the middle instead of ol' Ben Franklin. This particular
form of currency was divided into many small perforated squares. Being worldly men, the three knew
exactly what they had on their hands. They'd spend their night in the new practice spot eating small
pieces of the freshly found hundo. As time progressed, the band started noticing all the erratic musical
notes that had been pecked into the wooden floors. They immediately picked up their instruments and
performed the first demonic anthem they could transcribe. The only words to describe this eclectic music
would be psychedelic country sludge. As the riffs started filling the air, the skeletal remains of our
feathered friends instantly became reanimated. They knew in their cold dead hearts that this was going
to be a lifelong bond. Over the next couple of months, the boney buzzards shared all their music and
philosophies of life with the three men, Randall Platt (guitar and vocals), Patrick Mcgillicuddy (bass and
vocals), and Josh Rogers (drums). They knew there could only be one name for this band, Buzzard
Fight.
