ANNIE HUMPHREY
Growing up on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation in Northern Minnesota, Annie lived in a home filled with voices made of thunder and nothing could stop it. Her parents were brilliant people individually. Her father, a singer and musician and her mother an artist and poet. Together they made sadness. Each of her parents taught Annie the beautiful things they knew. They showed her that she carried their gifts in her hands too. This is how creating art and music came about for her. This is what saved her. This is how she lives now.
Things my dad taught me:
skin a deer, set net, clean fish, make maple syrup, harvest wild rice, play basketball, ride motorcycle, go without if you can't afford it, play guitar
Things my mom taught me:
draw, paint, sew, write, laugh, wonder, forgive
Annie has 4 children and 2 grandsons. She has a handsome, Indian, horseman husband. They inspire her spirit and her art.
“Journeys of feeling
her song her voice
reflecting spirit
Story telling
People’s story
Woman’s story
Helping the music
to remember
what is real
Ancestor memories
Dealing with nows
Shadow worlds
An Ancient way
For the healing
A woman sings ”

The live performance experience is intimate, containing both humor and insight. On stage, Awful Purdies actively share gratitude and support of one another and take turns stepping up as lead singers and songwriters.
Since 2006, Awful Purdies have been raising families, telling women’s stories, advocating for human rights, and engaging with their communities in Eastern Iowa. https://www.awfulpurdies.com
DIANE PATTERSONAward-winning songwriter, Folkgoddess Diane Patterson subverts the dominant paradigm with rocking acoustic guitar and ukulele, a mighty pen, and a woman's voice. Since 1993, Patterson weaves her original Mystic Acoustic Americana and unifying stories, planting seeds of love and revolution. Diane’s new album, Satchel of Songs, was recorded in New Orleans with platinum record-producer Mike Napolitano and features amazing supporting musicians such as Terence Higgins, Todd Sickafoose, and Ani DiFranco.
Diane played folk guitar in church as a kid, and now her songs come from visions of equality and passion for wild forests. Check out Diane’s recent music video for her 20-year-old song Ballad of Big Mountain, all filmed around the stunning Diné/Navajo lands. In Summer 2023 Diane toured 3 months in Sweden, Denmark, Portugal and Poland.
LOJO RUSSO
Lojo Russo has been making music along the ‘Big Muddy’ for most of her life. Born in California she likes to keep the river to her East and currently calls the Quad Cities (IA) home - performing mostly as a solo touring artist. But, most of her childhood and early adult years were spent in and around the Twin Cities (MN) music scene.
Self-taught on guitar and voice Russo spent her formative years in different bands in the Twin Cities (MN) playing guitar, bass and mandolin in all sots of folk, funk, jazz, jam, Irish and indie bands. The range of genres gave her a broader understanding of the music she played and a deeper understanding of the music she wanted to create. Those early years earned Russo a nomination for a "Mammy" (MN Music Award) for "Best Folk Artist" and the title of "Best Female Artist" from MN Women's Press.
To look at her history it’s no wonder Russo likes to keep the music flowing along wherever it takes her. Russo’s musical style is as varied and unexpected as the river she calls home. One moment she’s laying down a furious rhythm on the guitar punctuated with a wailing vocal the next we’re floating along carried by intricate finger-picking, her voice as intense and haunting as her lyrics.
Performing is her passion and the road is a long, strange, wonderful trip full of promise and adventure. Whether playing festivals or front steps, coffee houses or concert halls Lojo Russo connects with her audience in a way few performers can.
