Usually bass players are in the background of the band, integral yet unsung. “Through The Eyes of the Bass Player” is a concept introduced by local bassist Billy Thornton to showcase Atlanta’s talented bass community.

In Billy’s inaugural presentation of this (hopeful) series he presents one of his favourite trio settings: saxophone, bass, and drums. The lack of chordal instruments allows for a more open sense of harmony while also showcasing the rhythmic nature of every instrument. Jazz standards that are common can be shifted into something recognizable but new.

Sharing in this evening will be Robert Boone Jr on drums and Jamel Mitchell on saxophone.
